As a kindergarten teacher I see the importance of children who attend a preschool program. The Head Start program is a wonderful program that provides a structured and loving learning environment for the children. The children that I see in my classroom that have been in the Head Start program come in with many more kindergarten readiness skills and social skills. These children already know many of the expectations and are able to follow school routines much easier. Children that have been in Head Start are given that extra jump start to learning that will follow them though their continued years of education.

Not only is Head Start important to the children, but it is also very beneficial to their parents. Parents who have had their child in Head Start understand the importance of education and the structure and importance of learning. The parents are given many ways and ideas to help their child succeed in a school setting. I feel that Head Start is a very valuable part of a child’s education. It gives children the foundation and love of learning to build on to.

My experience with Head Start in the past has been very positive. In the meetings we have had with the staff of Head Start, it is evident they are very concerned for their students and their preparedness for kindergarten. I appreciate that the children I receive from Head Start have been in a structured environment and have the background needed to enter kindergarten.
